It is not unusual with a 12 year old car to have the crank position sensor fail. It provides the timing for the spark ignition and these when starting to fail will cause the symptoms described. It is a $35 part for most cars and takes very little time to replace.P1604 does not relate to camshaft or crankshaft position sensors. P1604 is just a general Startability Malfunction trouble code. Start by servicing your ground connections underneath battery to chassis, driver's side strut tower, and driver's side engine head.
